Steven Butler, of Loon Lake, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2016, at the age of sixty-six years. Steve was born on August 1, 1950, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to John and Anna Butler. He joined his big brother, Michael. He spent his youth in Marshalltown Community School System where he was involved in little league baseball, football, and was a champion swimmer. He also enjoyed duck hunting with Michael and Dad. In 1967, his daughter, Stephanie, was born. In 1968, he joined the U.S. Army and served his country in Vietnam where he was wounded. He returned to the States to recuperate, and then in 1970 he moved to Canada to follow his dream of hunting a moose out of his back door. With his beloved Queenie and Skitty, Steve turned a grainery into his home. Most of his comforts were provided by his neighbors, Emil and Louise Vogel. Steve returned to Iowa to visit where he met and married his true love, Nancy. Steve, Nancy and two year old Marc began their life in Whelan in 1973. In 1974, they started in the cattle business, coerced by their good friends, West Ludwig and Ron Waugh. Lone Spruce Outfitters was born in 1989, and Steve worked tirelessly to balance the ranch with the outfitting, and loved the camaraderie with the American clients. Steve and Nancy hosted Dogpatch Pig Roast for three years starting in 1980. People came from far and wide for this yearly shindig, good food, good music and good friends. Steve enjoyed music, gunsmithing, woodworking and hunting. He displayed incredible love and patience for all children, especially his grandchildren, he adored them all! He was very tickled to become a great-grandpa. Steve had a great love for family. He loved get togethers with good food and could be called upon to compliment Nancy with “That’s Might Tasty!” Steve is predeceased by: his father, John Butler; his aunt, Mary Butler. He is survived by: his loving wife of 43 years, Nancy; his son, Marc; his daughter, Stephanie (Alan); his mother, Anna Butler; his brother, Michael Butler; his grandchildren and great grandchildren and his nephews.
