January 23, 1991 Mark Owens, Editorial Coordinator COLLECTORS' SHOWCASESports magazines of America7130 S. LewisTulsa, OK 74136 Dear Mark Owens: I am an eager subscriber to COLLECTORS' SHOWCASE as well as an eager collector. Best of all, however, is that I am a writer-photographer of antiques and collectables. Here are several ideas for photoessays for COLLECTORS' SHOWCASE in line with your focus on antique dolls, toys, advertising, and Americana: 1. Victorian automaton dolls, would be especially nice for your 1991 holiday issue. 2. Hair pictures, relatively new Americana. A spontaneous folk art form arising during the depression of the 1930s, wherein families and friends used the printed covers and illustrations of the women's magazines of that time, embellishing them with the shorn locks of their own sweet little children, as well as snippets from their favorite blankets and clothes, and then framing them for gifts and family remembrances. I know a Chicago school teacher who has collected 25 of these relatively scarce pictures. 3. A woman who has created a complete Western town in her home, with countless number of Western memorabilia and leads select groups, such as school classes and/or women's clubs through her exhibit. Money is no object to this woman, because she has been able to indulge her every desire. 4. Sports memorabilia. I am going to see this man's collections this weekend, so I will know better what he has available. Since you are part of a larger company, the Sports Magazines of America, please tell me your needs and their also, and I will find some angle just for you. Page 2. Attached please find copies of current clips, my curriculum vitae, list of publications, and a partial list of collections accessible to me. If there is anything else you want, just ask. Please do not return this material, but file it for your future reference. May I hear from you soon? Sincerely, June Grayson Encl. I furnish 35mm color slides or color prints, whichever you choose. I can write any number of words desired.
